Mercedes-Benz Presented The New S-Class W223

Mercedes-Benz has finally provided the next-generation S-Class interior. We will have to forget everything we knew about the W222 because the interior of its successor is completely different.

Take, for example, mechanical buttons and switches. Their number has decreased. And we missed not two or three, but 27 buttons. The headlights and windscreen wipers are controlled the old-fashioned way, but several other functions are activated either by virtual buttons or by voice commands and gestures. As for the climate control settings, the company said they are hidden at the bottom of the Central display and are easily called to the center of the screen.

However, the unique feature of MBUX is its networking with a wide range of vehicle systems and sensor data. For example, the exit warning function in the S-Class now uses cameras to recognize that an occupant wants to leave the vehicle. If another road user is approaching in the blind spot, the active ambient lighting becomes part of the exit warning system and flashes red. MBUX Interior Assist can also check whether the child seat is correctly attached to the front passenger seat. The driver's attention level is also monitored, if there are signs of drowsiness, the driver is then warned by ATTENTION ASSIST.

In total, up to five displays are installed in the updated S-Class; this is a fully digital dashboard, 12.8-inch infotainment screen, and three displays for rear passengers: two on the back of the front seats and one in the center armrest. All monitors use OLED technology, which makes the graphics clearer and reduces power consumption by 30% compared to a conventional LCD.

Another new feature introduced in the W223 is an additional "display" with support for augmented reality (AR) for navigation and driver assistance systems. The angle of view is 10 degrees horizontally and 5 degrees vertically, and it seems that the image appears almost 10 meters in front of the car, which is equivalent to a 77-inch monitor. The same technologies are used in modern projectors used in cinemas.

The premiere of the new S-Class was divided into three parts. Today was the first. The second episode will air on July 29 and will focus on safety and comfort, while the third and final episode, which will be released on August 12, talks about the luxury of the cabin.
