Russian Fighter Jets Intercepted A US Air Force Reconnaissance Plane Over The Sea Of Japan

An American spy plane was intercepted on Saturday by Russian fighter jets over the Sea of Japan, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

As stated in the message received by Interfax, on July 11, Russian means of controlling the airspace over the neutral waters of the sea of Japan "detected an air target flying in the direction of the state border of the Russian Federation."

According to the Ministry of Defense, for its identification and interception, su-35S and MiG-31BM fighters were raised in the air from the air defense duty forces of the Eastern military district, which after approaching the target identified it as a US air force RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft. Russian fighter jets accompanied him at a safe distance, the Ministry said.

After the American plane made a u-turn and moved away from the Russian state border, the Russian fighters returned to their home airfield, the defense Ministry said.

The military Department notes that "all flights of the Russian air force are carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace over neutral waters."
