TikTok Will Hire Another 10,000 Employees In The US, Despite A Possible Ban In The Country

Popular Chinese social network TikTok intends to hire another 10 thousand employees in the United States in the next three years, despite the possible ban of the app in the country.

TikTok's staff in the US has increased from 500 people to 1.4 thousand employees since the beginning of the year.

"In 2020, TikTok has tripled the number of employees in the US, and we plan to create another 10,000 jobs in the next three years," a company representative said.

Chinese ByteDance, which owns TikTok, announced in March that it expects to increase its staff to 100,000 by the end of 2020. As of the end of 2019, Facebook Inc. had 44.9 thousand employees, Google - 118.9 thousand, Alibaba - 116.5 thousand.

Earlier in July, US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo said that Washington was considering banning Chinese mobile phone apps, in particular TikTok. The American authorities are concerned about the protection of personal data of users of the social network.

According to Timothy Armu, Head of the Marketing Agency Fanbytes, TikTok is trying to establish itself as an employer in the United States. "The more they are treated as an American employer, the better," he told CNBC.

The company's largest offices in the United States are located in California, New York, Texas, and Florida.

In an attempt to distance itself from the Chinese authorities, TikTok appointed the former head of Walt Disney Co. ' s streaming division as CEO. Kevin Mayer.

Also, TikTok chooses the location for its global headquarters. According to the Sunday Times, ByteDance has stopped talks with the British authorities about opening a TikTok head office in the UK due to "the broader geopolitical context."
