Greek Authorities Have Begun Evacuating Residents Of Five Localities Due To Fires
Severe forest fires are raging 80 km South of Athens, forcing authorities to evacuate residents of two villages, three small towns, as well as residents of a summer camp.
More than 250 firefighters have been sent to the area to extinguish the fires. They are supported from the air by ten helicopters and seven fire aircraft.
Firefighters said that over the past day, 57 forest fires broke out in the region, most of which were quickly extinguished.
However, the situation is complicated by strong winds, which contribute to the rampant elements.
At the moment, there were no reports of injuries, the amount of damage caused is not called.
Severe fires are a common occurrence in Greece during hot, dry summers.
