The 23rd Shanghai International Film Festival Opened
The Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) officially started on Saturday, but due to the ongoing fight against the spread of a new type of coronavirus, many of its events have been moved online and the program has been shortened. Nevertheless, it will be the largest event in China in the field of film and television since the beginning of the pandemic.
As reported earlier in the organizing committee of the film festival, even though the works for the competition program were selected in all sections, this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, awards will not be awarded. There will also be no passage of famous participants on the carpet, which annually preceded the award ceremony. The ceremony itself was also canceled due to the epidemiological situation.
In any case, all movie lovers in China, who have longed for the big screen during the isolation, had a great opportunity to finally visit the cinemas, which after more than a half-year break opened across the country on July 20. This year, the festival's screening program includes 320 films that will be shown in 29 cinemas in Shanghai at various times. Two hundred paintings will become the world, Asian or Chinese premieres.
Online ticket sales started on July 20 and immediately caused a huge stir among movie fans. In the first hour, according to official data, more than 128 thousand tickets were sold out. Their sale at the box office this year due to the coronavirus is not available.
The screening, which runs until August 2, was originally scheduled to take place in June but was postponed to a later date due to the pandemic. Taking into account the continuing epidemiological control measures in the city, according to the established rules, the occupancy rate of halls in cinemas should not exceed 30% of the maximum. All viewers are required to register their data and check their body temperature at the entrance.
Shanghai film festival
The Shanghai international film festival has been held since 1993. Its jury at various times included Oliver stone, Karen Shakhnazarov, and other world-famous filmmakers. SIFF has long ceased to be a regional event. It attracts many celebrities not only from Asia but also from the world cinema. Over the years, the festival has witnessed the development of the Chinese film industry and has also become a platform for international exchange and cultural cooperation.
