Kazakhstan Has Uncovered The Largest Drug Lab In The Country's History
In Almaty, during the special operation, an underground drug laboratory was liquidated, more than 55 kg of the synthetic drug "mephedrone," a large amount of currency and firearms were seized, the press service of the National Security Committee of the Republic (KNB) reported.
According to information distributed on Friday, on July 27, the KNB detained two citizens of Kazakhstan who were producing synthetic drugs in a laboratory in Almaty. As stated in the Committee, during the searches of the laboratory, apartments, and cars of the suspects, a batch of mephedrone was found, the cost of which on the black market is about 1.5 billion Tenge (about 3.6 million us dollars).
Besides, laboratory equipment, about one ton of precursors and chemicals sufficient for the manufacture of 30 kg of drugs were seized, the report says. At the same time, it is emphasized that the liquidated drug laboratory is "the largest in the history of the country."
According to the press service, initially, the suspects artistically produced drugs at the place of residence. Then they used the proceeds from their sale to purchase a cottage on the territory of the Ile-Alatau National Park in the Almaty region, where they set up a full-fledged underground laboratory for the production of mephedrone.
"Drugs produced almost on an industrial scale were sold in bulk to representatives of large drug stores operating in the so-called shadow segment of the Internet 'DarkNet.' At the same time, payment for drugs was received mainly in bitcoins," the report notes.
The drug produced, according to the detainees, was in high demand among buyers from major cities, as it had no analogs in Kazakhstan in terms of purity and quality, the information indicates.
The detainees were arrested. A criminal case under part 3 of article 297 (Illegal manufacture, processing, acquisition, storage, transportation for sale, transfer or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogs) of the Criminal code of the Republic was opened on the fact of the manufacture and sale of drugs.
