Turkey Accused Biden Of Ignorance For His Statements About The Country
Turkey, on Sunday, condemned the statements of the US presidential candidate from the Democratic Party, Joe Biden, who called to support the political opponents of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Biden made these comments in an interview filmed by The New York Times back in December, but the video of them only appeared on Saturday and caused a wide reaction on social networks.
In an interview, responding to a question about Erdogan, Biden called the Turkish President "an autocrat," criticized his policy towards the Kurds and expressed support for the Turkish opposition. "What I think we should do is change the approach to it, making it clear that we support the opposition leadership," he said.
The politician said that it is necessary to "encourage" Erdogan's rivals to help them win, but not with a coup, but in the elections.
And as Erdogan's spokesman Ibrahim Kalyn tweeted, "Joe Biden's analysis of the situation in Turkey is based on pure ignorance, arrogance, and hypocrisy."
"The days when you gave Turkey orders are over," he added. "But if you still think you can try, be our guest." You will pay for it."
