In honor of its 70th anniversary, the International Film Festival Mannheim-Heidelberg is presenting its new Grand IFFMH Award for the first time. The awards honor two filmmakers, Andrea Arnold and Guillaume Nicloux, and a producer and director Claude Lelouch with Homages.

All four will be on hand for this year's festival, where they will hold masterclasses and discuss their work.

In this year, we're trying to balance tradition and innovation, so with our Homage we pay tribute to the tradition of cinema with Lelouch, and radical cinema, which LeLoo have done and which Brokemper is also producing, says Sascha Keilholz.

She does not limit herself to working within the limits of Germany's funding system, which includes federal and regional funders and television broadcasters, he adds.

"She has been, over the last 20 years, the German co-producer of all Lars von Trier films, thereby making him one of the most important European producers."

In collaboration with Homage, IFFMH will screen a number of Brokempers productions, including Margarethe von TrottaS Hannah Arendt, Jan Bonny The Winter Tale and von Trierd Antichrist.

I'm so happy that he wanted to come here.

The festival will also premiere the latest and 50th film of the directors latest and half-hundred-year-old work, Love Becomes a Woman and Bolero as its closing film.

The Homage prize is considered IFFMHs lifetime achievement award, but the new Grand Exception Award honors the work of filmmakers who are perhaps less known internationally but who have still a long impact on cinema like Arnold and Nicloux.

The Grand IFFMH Award recognizes filmmakers who are perhaps in the middle of their careers, or first half, says Frederic Jaeger, director of program at IFMH. Guillaume Nicloux has already made a few films, but he still needs to be seen much more, especially in Germany, where i'm not well known. It has sa particular voice and perspective on cinema, too.

In announcing Nicloux as one of the recipients of l'exhibit, the festival said that the French director's work was as diverse as it is radical, noting that he repeatedly takes on the most varied genres and transcends them.

The event will present the 2018 Indochina War drama, To the Ends of the World in the Homage lineup.

And Andrea has made five feature films, yet is still one of the most original voices in cinema right now, Keilholz says. My new documentary Cow, which premiered in Cannes, is really one year of year, so we thought it was a good time to present this award to her.

The fest will screen Arnolds 2009 drama Fish Tank as well as Cow which unspools in the Pushing Boundaries sidebar.
