The AFI Fest returns to its Hollywood Home

The AFI Fest will return to its traditional home at the TCL Chinese Theatres in Hollywood, the first in-person event since 2019. Per Ai president and CEO Bob Gazzale, it's going to re-enter the scene with its sense of purpose intact.

AFI Fest was created to fulfill a need, and that need seems to change every year, certainly during eutrophic pandemic, Gazzale says. The idea that this year was to be able to learn what we learned in vivacious times, namely the joy of life and the hope of seeing others, to experience hordes of swarms, the frankness of stories, have remained elusive tonic for dark times.

The fests marquee lineup is heavy on festival favorites, musicals and crowd-pleasers.

From Nov. 10-14, AFI Fest will premiere in the World premiere of Lin-Manuel Mirandas Tick, Tick... Boom and, also, world premieres of Benjamin Cleary Parallel Mothers - and also the world production of Hello for the film Juice Wrld, a documentary about the late rap star.

The festival will unveil 115 titles over five days, with 48 of them features. Documentaries will make up a healthy part of the lineup (e.g. Citizen Ashe, Julia and The Worst Person in the World, Norwegian film Hit the Road et al.

... We still want to incorporate some hybrid elements to accommodate those who cannot come back into the theater, because we know there's a comfort level, and people are still easing back in.

The Festivals mission and focus has evolved over the past 35 years, but as a result, AFI remains one of the few constant constants on Los Angeles festival calendar, and since the L.A. Film Festival demise, it's the only major general audience festival left in the entertainment capital.

The largest part of our audience comes from Los Angeles.

Af that time is only five days, but we have almost 50 features in those five day, and there are always movies in the city, not in that sense, said Harris. You have to be very careful with this experience, especially when you have the event in the middle of the movie, but not just that. The movie is a huge privilege, is it that combines the two of these people with focusing on the entire time in solitary space? There is always racial october,
