ViacomCBS Streaming Chief Tom Ryan Sees 'Squid Game&/-Sized Hit Potential
ViacomCBS can dream of producing programming that reaches similar heights.
Tom Ryan, a television producer and CEO of ViacomCBS, described his companys growing overseas capabilities on the latest episode of the Variety podcast Strictly Business, in an interview conducted Monday at the Future of Television conference.

Using a distribution perspective as we continue to scale up these streaming services across the world, we can export to all the different countries where our streaming service is present so that we will have the kind of global scale and success that you need to be able to achieve.
WarnerMedia sold the ChileVision property of ViacomCBS in April and acquired the Fox TeleColombia and Estudios TeleMexico last month.
The company was named one of the biggest creators of Spanish-language content, who, as you know, travels very well around the world and is responsible for some of my biggest hits in streaming.
The Los Gatos, Calif.-based streaming service has scored with Spanish-language hits that have played well across many regions, including Spains La Casa de Papel. Paramount Plus is currently in 25 countries around the world while Pluto TV is in 26.
The fourth quarter is also promising to Paramount Plus. The two-part spinoffs of Yellowstone and South Park will bow before the end of the year.
Paramount Plus was strengthened by the release of movies from its sister studio, which experimented with a range of release strategies in the streaming services first year of operation. Although the horror flick A Quiet Place 2 abided by sweeping olympics, primarily in theaters and homes, with the focus being on daily basis.
"At the time when we see success in each of the different methods that we have released, you know, this flexibility is important to us right now," said Ryan. "We think that when a flexible model and approach is coming soon, we will have re-positioning flexibly."
Despite the success of Paw Patrol, Ryan said that Paramount Plus had a strong traction with kid viewers, an important audience target for the company. The last thing you want to do once your kids gravitate toward - unsubscribe from that streaming service, he said. So it really has great benefits in terms of retention.
