Disney Plus Unveils Fashion Biopic 'Balenciaga As First Spanish Original Series
Disney Plus's first scripted Spanish series will be a biopic of celebrated designer Balenciaga, the company unveiled today.
The drama, created by Lourdes Iglesias and 12 time Goya Award-winners Jose Mari Goenaga, Jon Garao and Aitor Arregi, tells the story of how Balenciaga, the son of a seamstress and drained the societal expectations to become one of the world's most respected designers.
Disney has already announced 16 scripted and five unscriptees projects from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.
The titles already announced include romantic action-comedy thriller "Wedding Season" and "Nautilus," a re-telling of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea directed by Michael Matthews and starring Shazad Latif (Star Trek: Discovery).
The streamer is adding dozens of original series, including Pam & Tommy starring Lily James and Sebastian Stan, the Sex Pistols biopic Lead to Wrexham and soccer-themed docuseries Welcome to the Wrestle featuring Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
The streamer also has pledged to debut a new show or movie every week throughout November and December with titles such as "Anna," "Hawkeye," Ridley Scott's "The Last Duel", "Encanto" and "North America" starring Scott Foley and Piper Perabo, "Every Wonder Years," and Derek Delgaudio" respectively.
