UFC 249 Will Not Happen Due To COVID-19 Pandemic

UFC announced on its official Twitter page that the UFC 249 tournament is canceled due to the coronavirus epidemic.

It's worth noting that the organization was fully ready to hold the UFC 249 tournament, but ESPN asked to postpone it and all subsequent events indefinitely.

Also worth mentioning that the UFC 249 tournament was scheduled for April 18, 2020, in New York. The main event was set to be the UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov's title fight with Tony Ferguson.

However, the tournament was later moved to California due to quarantine in New York. On April 1, Nurmagomedov withdrew from the fight due to the inability to fly from Russia. The head of UFC Dana White called Justin Gatzhi the rival of Ferguson on the tournament.

Speaking live on Instagram, Dana White, the President of the organization, has noted that the UFC may hold tournaments on a private island, where infrastructure is already being built this May. "We will be ready to return as soon as the pandemic is over, possibly as early as next month"
