The US Military Announced The Interception Of Two Russian Il-38 Aircraft In The Area Of Alaska
The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said on Thursday it intercepted two Russian Maritime patrol aircraft in the Alaskan air defense identification zone.
"F-22 NORAD fighters supported by a KC-135 Stratotanker tanker aircraft of the US Air force Transport command intercepted two Russian Il-38 Maritime patrol aircraft that entered the Alaskan air defense identification zone last night," its press service reported.
It is alleged that the aircraft passed 50 miles (about 93 km) from Unimak island along with the Aleutian Islands and were in the Alaskan air defense identification zone for about four hours. "The aircraft remained in international airspace and never violated the air borders of the United States and Canada," NORAD stressed.
The command said that this interception of Russian aircraft was the fifth since the beginning of the month.
Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry has repeatedly stated that all flights of Russian military aircraft are performed in strict accordance with international rules and without violating the borders of other States.
