Trainer Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, the father of the fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov, died, according to the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov.
"Sad news has reached me, friends, that Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov has left this world. On behalf of the entire Chechen people, I offer my sincere condolences to the family of Abdulmanap Magomedovich! He left us, leaving behind a good name and raising a decent generation," Kadyrov wrote in his Telegram channel.
According to him, Nurmagomedov Sr. left behind "a good name and raised a decent generation."
Khabib Nurmagomedov reported on June 22 that his father is in a serious condition. According to him, the coach suffered a coronavirus, but "the infection left consequences," and he was in intensive care in a hospital in Moscow. He was initially hospitalized with pneumonia, but later suffered a stroke and was in a coma for a week.
Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who was supposed to turn 58 in December, was an honored coach of Russia, a master of sports of the USSR in freestyle wrestling. During his coaching career, he has trained 18 world Champions in combat Sambo, this figure is included in the Book of records of Russia, as a record number of students - world Champions. He also, in particular, trained his son Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is the champion of the Absolute fighting championship (UFC) in a lightweight, prepared several more UFC fighters.
