The Head Of The British Foreign Office Will Present A List Of Russians Who Face Sanctions
British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab on Monday will name Russian citizens and Saudi nationals who face visa bans and asset freezes for alleged human rights violations, the Financial Times reported.
Sanctions based on the English version of the American "Magnitsky act" of 2012 are planned to be imposed against those Russian representatives who London believes were involved in the death of lawyer Sergei Magnitsky in prison in Russia in 2009.
Raab's list from Saudi Arabia includes individuals who, in his opinion, were involved in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Turkey in 2018.
This will be the first post-Brexit case of the introduction of a sanctions regime against foreigners. Saudi Arabia is a partner of the UK, and the imposition of sanctions against its subjects could strain relations with its largest ally in the Persian Gulf. This is feared in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Agency refused to announce the list of people who are included in the "blacklist" of Raab before the announcement in Parliament.
