Only days after a report that the board of professional wrestling and media business World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) was investigating a $3 million settlement that CEO Vince McMahon paid a female paralegal after an alleged affair, as well as several nondisclosure agreements, McMahon has "voluntarily stepped back" from his roles with the company pending an "investigation into alleged misconduct." "I have pledged my deep support to the inquiry by the special commission," McMahon said. "I have sincerely believed that this company will be successful, but I am always committed to assisting the investigation. I''m sure that we can work with the independent directors to strengthen our culture and our company, and it''s extremely important to me that we have a safe and collaborative workplace," said the statement.

While the company and its board "do not expect to receive further comments until the investigation is concluded," it wrote this statement: "WWE and its board of directors take all allegations of misconduct very seriously. They met with an independent legal counsel to assist them with an independent review.
