As Cathy Ames, the antiheroine of John Steinbeck''s seminal 1952 novel, Florence Pugh will join the cast of the new Netflix limited series. Deadline (opens in a new tab)also revealed that Zoe Kazan will serve as the writer and executive producer on the project. Pugh will also co-produce.
This journey takes place in California''s Salinas Valley, a region known for its farming and agriculture. The story starts before World War One, but it skips around the timeline and makes a jump back to the Civil War. Trask and Hamilton families are influenced by trauma, love, betrayal, destiny, and duty.
Kazan is well-known for its personal connections to the project; her grandfather, Elia Kazan, directed the original film for Warner Bros. in 1955., will be Kazans'' first major TV writing project, although she is no stranger to writing. 2018s was directed by Paul Dano, and featured Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan. Kazan is also an actor and will appear in the next 2022 film about the origins of the #MeToo movement.
"I fell in love with East of Eden when I first read it in my teens," Kazan said. "I have always wanted to express the fantastic, sprawling, three-generational whole of Steinbecks'' novel, Cathay Ames. "Fresh Pugh is our dream, Cathy; I can''t imagine a more joyful actor to bring this character to life."
Pugh is well-known for her role as assassin Yelena Belova in the 2021s movie and limited series on Disney Plus. Now that Yelena has been established as the inheritor apparent to Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson), Pugh will no doubt have a busy Marvel schedule ahead, but that is not hindering her from undertaking a slew of other initiatives.
Shell is expected to reprise the cast of Dont Worry Darling with Harry Styles and Chris Pine, along with, and Christopher Nolans, who will be released in July 2023.
