The sequel to the most popular 2019 film, which itself was a remake of the famous TV series.

Fans will be happy to know that all of the main cast for the sequel are back, including Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, and Elizabeth McGovern. Along with a string of new cast members, Dominic West is also a part of the cast.

Dominic West spoke on his remarks that he would be able to join the cast in 2021. "It''s very daunting to see a show that''s been going for so long that it''s such a big success."

The film has received a lot of positive reviews and is a must-watch for all viewers. Our own reviewer is pleading for the many hilarious one-liners and great "in" jokes for fans.

Here''s all we know about it...

Downton Abbey: A New Era release date

Following the April 29 release, it will be available in UK cinemas for several weeks.

It will be released in theaters on May 20. It is certainly one of the most important new films of 2022.

The world premiere of the film in London saw almost everyone from the cast. Including Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, and Laura Carmichael, the actors performed brilliantly.

Downton Abbey: A New Era plot

The first trailer for the series (which you can see below) revealed a number of key plot lines. Violet Crawley (Maggie Smith) notes in a high-interesting segment: "Years ago before you were born, I met a man...". A revelation that leaves her son Robert (Hugh Bonneville) particularly keen. She then reveals that the mysterious man has given her a French villa! "What?!" exclaims Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery).

So, we know that the Crawleys will be heading to France for a new adventure. It certainly shows up to them and it appears that Violet''s inheritance might be more a deal than it is pleasing to us.

New images of the film have been released, but you can see the Crawley family on their trip to France in the gallery below.

A trailer also depicts scenes from a wedding. So who''s getting married? Well, it''s Tom Branson (Allen Leech) and her maid Lucy Smith (Tuppence Middleton). As the cast list references a Lucy Branson.

More photographs of Tom and Lucy may be found in the gallery below.

Downton Abbey: A New Era cast

The main cast of Hugh Bonneville (Robert Crawley), Elizabeth McGovern (Cora Crawley), Maggie Smith (Violet Crawley), Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary), Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith), and Penelope Wilton (Isobel Merton) are all welcome from upstairs.

Jim Carter (Mr. Carson), Phyllis Logan (Mrs. Hughes), Robert James-Collier (Thomas Barrow), Lesley Nicol (Mrs. Patmore, Sophie McShera (Daisy) and Joanne Froggatt (Anna Bates).

Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye, Dominic West, and Hugh Dancy have all been cast members. They talked about filming the film.

In the first poster for the film, the whole family (minus Henry Talbot) is seen together, which was completed ahead of the trailer (more on that below).

Henry Talbot''s (Matthew Goode) omission leaves fans worried that something terrible might happen to Lady Mary''s second husband in the new film.
