Recent updates to the RPCS3 PlayStation 3 emulator have provided significant performance improvements for several titles, such as Metal Gear Solid 4, Red Dead Redemption, and Persona 5.

The new updates have been revealed in a new video shared by the emulator''s developers on the official YouTube channel for the RPCS3. You may see the video below.

With Nekotekina optimizing SPU performance, SPU barriers have been reduced across the board, allowing for increased RSX (PS3 GPU) utilisation. Metal Gear Solid 4 saw the greatest improvement from this change, with most users seeing a 25-50% performance boost! This change gave kd-11 some much-needed headroom to drastically improve RSX performance, including a 5-20% performance gain in most RSX heavy games/areas such as outside of towns in Red Dead Redemption!

kd-11 is already developing another RSX improvement this time to Zcull performance! Metal Gear Solid 4 has also achieved some significant improvements, but there are also other games in this lineup. Stay tuned. A NVidia specific physics issue affecting Uncharted 1 and 2 is also causing problems in float calculations.

On its official website, more information about the RPCS3 emulator can be found.

RPCS3 is a multi-platform open-source Sony PlayStation 3 emulator and software developed in C++ for Windows, Linux, and BSD. It was then then migrated to GitHub later on in its development. Both the open-source community and the PlayStation enthusiasts have seen the emulator for the first time. Today, RPCS3 is primarily designed by Nekotekina, the kd-11, and backed by a massive team of GitHub contributors.
