Heardle is perhaps the most well-known motivation for Wordle, the word game, which saw a million players check in every day within months of its arrival in late 2021.

The most significant breakthrough in Heardle''s history is its purchase by Spotify for an unidentified sum in July 2022.

While Heardle remains free and the game itself has remained unchanged, there have been a few changes, including a shift from SoundCloud as its player of choice to Spotify, which now allows users to listen to the whole track once the game has concluded.

Spotify was interested in Heardle, and it''s this, in part. "We are constantly looking for innovative and playful approaches to enhance music discovery and assist artists reach new users," said Spotify''s global manager.
