When EA and Motive Studios announced that they would remake the classic survival-horror game for PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC, those who played Dead Space back in 2008.
A fantastic game with unrivalled mechanics is getting another shake on modern hardware on the one jagged claw. Which is the most likely due to the fact that it was too long already?
The original game ripped players from the back of their heads, but Dead Space 2 and 3 continued to do so in 2011 and 2013. A decade has passed since we last fell into the space-aged shoes of Isaac Clarke, and EA and Motive have decided it''s time to go back to the beginning.
Dead Space is being reimagined from the ground-up with the Frostbite engine, which is now exclusively developed for the new-gen consoles and PCs, so you''ll notice a huge difference compared to the previous one.
Despite the whole revamp of the game, EA and Motive have announced a release date for the game that isn''t too far away, and they''re confident in the future.
"We''re making tremendous progress on our journey to alpha," said Dr. Ducharme, the senior producer of Dead Space, and said, "We can''t wait for players, both old and new, to see how we''ve enhanced the original experience in the remake to be equally as powerful for this generation." So get ready to survive on the USG Ishimura once more.
So far, here''s everything we know about the Dead Space Remake.
Dead Space Remake trailer
The remake of Dead Space was released with a very short teaser trailer during EA Play Live 2021. Although it didn''t reveal much, it sparked the same existential fear and prickling tension that sparked the original game.
The Dead Space remake''s new gameplay, sound design, and artwork have been shown in several developer live streams.
Dead Space Remake release date
As of January 2023, the official Dead Space Remake release date has been confirmed. It''s really not too far away, but EA and Motive believe that the release date should remain in place.
Dead Space 2023 will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC only, so if you''re still using a last-gen console, you''ll have to upgrade by the end of January to play the remake at the launch.
Dead Space Remake gameplay changes
EA and Motive have stated that their desire to remake Dead Space was partly influenced by the fantastic Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes.
The result of the Frostbite engine is non just a visual refresh, but Capcom is releasing new gameplay and story elements that made them feel more modern while keeping the feel and character that they originally achieved. EA is now hoping to do the same with Dead Space.
So far, there have been three live streams from the Dead Space team, each one revealing some of the gameplay and design changes that are being made. One of the most beneficial upgrades was for the A.L.I.V.E. system, which controls things such as Isaacs'' heart rate, breathing, and dialogue.
The adaptation of the system is more advanced, and Isaac''s physical responses are significantly improved, so the player will have a better understanding of how Isaac is handling his environment.
On the dismemberment mechanics, another exciting and somewhat gruesome gameplay change will be.
In the early 2021 Early Development livestream, Roman Campos-Oriola said, "The body destruction technology that we''re developing, that is able to really remove the flesh off of the enemies'' bones, and to give you a good sense of gore... but also of how much damage am I causing the opponent?" It''s a good example of how improving mechanics with the new engine will not only improve the gameplay, but also adds another gameplay.
Players will notice other improvements such as lighting improvements, 3D audio, improved zero gravity sections, and the removal of loading screens, which will help them experience the story as a "uninterrupted sequence shot."
If everything goes to plan, you''ll be playing the same game as the one that started in 2008, but it will feel new with enough new elements that you''ll need to learn to improve.
Dead Space Remake Story
The remake of The Dead Space will be akin to the original, but with Gunner Wright reprising his role as Isaac Clarke, there is possibility for the dialogue to be revamped in order to combine them with contemporary games.
Humanity has used all of Earth''s natural resources and must go into space to discover new materials. The Marker, an alien artifact that can serve as a limited source of energy on the planet, is discovered by researchers.
Unsurprisingly, things go wrong, and Isaac travels to the USG Ishimura to discover that the whole crew has been slaughtered by alien Necromorphs, and his partner Nicole is trapped somewhere on the ship.
