This mysterious Nier: Automata church that ended up being a fantastic mod is now available for download, so get your praying knees ready.
In July, the internet was abuzz with this strange situation where it appeared to be a whole, previously unknown area of Nier: Automata was discovered by some random person on Reddit. However, as it turns out, it was actually a bit of a hoax organized by a group of individuals who had made several extremely powerful mod tools that many thought were not possible yet. Now, you may download it yourself to understand the whole story.
The mod can be downloaded on Nexusmods, a popular modding site, with a very tongue-in-cheek caption that says, "Hello, i''m new to reddit and want to know how to open the church in Nier''''Automata." It is noted that there are some guidelines for installing the mod, so make sure to check them out if you are interested in learning.
Jaynoo, a Twitch streamer, was shown through the mod on their Twitch channel, revealing the majority of which appears to be the same as seen in the various clips produced prior to its formal appearance as a mod.
The mod removes bits and pieces from other Yoko Taro-developed titles, such as the original Nier, and Drakengard 3, a PS3 follow-up to Drakengard. That original game had a very difficult to achieve ending that eventually spawned the world of Nier, while another ending spawned Drakengard 3.
According to the mod page, other church versions will come, including some sort of "lite version," as well as the raw files, and may be used to keep other modders from messing around and try their hand at making their own hoax.
