Outer Wilds just got an Xbox Series X/S and PS5 upgrade in the time loop game

Outer Wilds, the legendary time loop adventure - and Eurogamer Game of the Year 2019 - from developer Mobius Digital, has just received a next-gen upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

If you''re unfamiliar, Outer Wilds introduces players as cocky space explorations into a tiny puzzle box, completely filled with secrets. There''s little direction, but a long set of clues hinting at a much larger mystery, and everything gradually opens out into a marvelous puzzle box, as intriguing as it is hauntig. And that''s even before you begin to grapple with the consequences of the solar system resetting itself every 20 minutes.

It''s fantastic, therefore, but while Outer Wilds has previously been compatible with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S due to backward compatibility, "playing...wasn''t recommended because players might be limited to sections that weren''t optimized for the next-gen consoles, and other backward compatibility issues, such as controller input lag." Mobius adds in a new post.

The modern version of consoles has been "custom built for next-gen consoles to alleviate these problems and improve performance even more" to that end, the game will be available for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 owners in 4K and 60fps.

The owner of the original is free of charge (as long as they''re upgrading within the same set of consoles) and the upgrade is also available to Game Pass, PlayStation Plus, PlayStation Plus Extra, and PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers. Mobius notes that all progress can be carried over following the upgrade.

"Whether you have walked around the solar system or haven''t seen the other day, we hope you enjoy the games on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S," Mobius says. "Though these consoles are new and shiny, we promise the ship is still held together with good old duct tape and tree sap."
