The Koei Tecmos development team proclaimed that the success of and requests from fans contributed to the establishment of the new remaster. During a live stream, the team left a message explaining the decision to produce the new remaster.

After a while of waiting from the release, everyone received considerable attention, and we received various kinds of opinions. We actually feel adamant that people around the world wish to see a sequel and [other] series titles released.
There are also people who started playing with, so we have the desire to convey more of the appeals from Japanese-style horror games. We decided to remaster and release, which was also requested a lot. It will take a bit more time until it is available, but please wait until the release.
In an interview with Siliconera in October 2021, Koei Tecmos Keisuke Kikuchi expressed interest in remastering another title, although the company had no intention to release a compilation that included multiple titles. In December 2021, the company announced that it had sold 340,000 units of the ports across all platforms combined worldwide.
In September 2022, the remaster was first announced worldwide. Shortly after the program, Koei Tecmo confirmed that it will also come to Switch platforms.
The new remaster of will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC in early 2023.
