Bob Odenkirk in Better Call Saul

Saul Goodman became a fan favorite character in part because of the fun and sleazy nature that Bob Odenkirk brought to the role. However, with Odenkirk and series creators Vince Gilligan (who also created) and Peter Gould presented the character with a surprising amount of depth.

The character was initially named Jimmy McGill, who was attempting to go on the straight and narrow as a lawyer before his natural tendency for schemes and defending the least favorable clients became his calling card and inspiration for a new persona, Saul Goodman. The series has also shown small snippets of Saul''s post under Gene.

Odenkirk has been fantastic in his role, having been nominated for the Emmys four times for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, although he hasnt won (yet?).

Odenkirk aspired to play the character for years in both seasons and reflected on the show''s production preparations as well as the heart attack that he suffered during season 6 of the series. In this tone, he described the finale as a gloomy one-two, but the genre of departure he wants for the character:

"It''s not flashy. It''s substantial, and on some level, I hoped for, for years, in this character brains," Odenkirk said. "But what I like about it is, it''s not cheap. It''s not easy. It''s pretty fantastic, I think. It''s pretty good. I''d wanna finish with this kind of character-development focus."

Better Call Saul cast

Odenkirk isnt a one-man show. The series has a tumultuous new characters and several favorites.

Rhea Seehorn will play Kim Wexler, Michael Mando, the reluctant drug dealer Nacho Vargo, Patrick Fabian, and Howard Hamlin, who will play Lalo Salamanca on season 6 in the future.

Jonathan Banks Mike Ehrmantraut has been a key member of the cast, while Giancarlo Espositos Gus Fring is back stringing in season 6 as he build his drug empire. Plus, based on a teaser trailer, the Salamanca twins should be seen as returning by Luis and Daniel Moncada.

We''ve also given the odds for which characters who hope to kill in the final season.
