Season 2 of The Wheel of Time: plot, cast, and everything we know so far

Season 2 of Amazon''s high fantasy series will feature even more action.

We''ve known for a long time that we''d get a second helping of, as the show was renewed for a second season before the first had even aired on Prime Video.

Season 1 made a really good impression upon its launch, and it became the most-watched series on Prime Video (bien it has since been eclipsed by ).

Now that filming has ended, we can begin looking forward to seeing even more of Robert Jordan''s most popular books available on our screens.

So here''s everything we know so far about Season 2...

The Wheel of Time season 2 release date

At the time of writing, Amazon had no idea when Season 2 would be available on our screens. It could be a while before the second season of Prime Video disperses.

Prime Video will feature a lot of fantasy in the future this year, so here''s how we can make a difference. Season 2 of the second season

On Prime Video, Amazon''s much-hyped TV show will be due to air weekly on Friday, September 2. It''s possible that Amazon may not want to have two fantasy epics airing simultaneously, which means we might be waiting until next year before we see Moiraine, Rand al''Thor, Egwene, Perrin, Nynaeve, and Mat on our screens.

While you wait for Robert Jordan''s book to return, be sure to check out our guide for reading books in order.

How many episodes of Season 2 of The Wheel of Time will there be?

Season 2 of the series will take eight episodes, as well.

The Wheel of Time season 2 cast

With the exception of a major shake-up, the majority of the original main cast will return for the next phase of their adventure in season 2.

Moiraine Damodred (played by Rosamund Pike), Lan Mandragoran (Daniel Henney), Rand al''Thor (Josha Stradowski), Perrin Aybara (Marcus Rutherford), Egwene al''Vere, and Nynaeve al''Meara (Zoe Robins) will also be back for the second season, as you''d expect.

The major rise comes in the form of Mat Cauthon, the remaining villager suspected of being the Dragon Reborn. Although Mat was depicted by Barney Harris, Barney isn''t returning for the second season (reasons for the recast have not been revealed).

Donal Finn will be based on Mat for season 2, which is a result of Donal Finn''s excellent fantasy experience already. He has already appeared in and been in attendance.

Donal Finn hasn''t had any additional cast members on the show yet. Ceara Coveney () has joined as Elayne Trakand, a powerful channeler of the Green Ajah, and Ayola Smart () has joined as Aviendha, a Maiden of the Spear from Aiel.

Meera Syal () and Natasha O''Keefe () are both on board, although their roles have not been disclosed yet.

In Season 2 of The Wheel of Time, what will happen?

Rand and Moiraine had snuck off in search of The Eye of The World, where they had a tense encounter with the Dark One. During the same day, the rest of the gang fought against the Dark One''s forces in desperate dwindling battle.

With the help of a totem Moiraine had given Rand the chance to dethrone him deeper into his current prison. Although he triumphed, he urged Moiraine (who has been dropped from the One Power by the Dark One) to tell his friends he had died due to his worries about doing something now that he has a connection to the One Power.

Season 2 will no doubt cover the effects of this climactic decision, as well as examine what Mat was up to, plus the arrival of the Seanchan army from across the sea.

Specific plot details are fairly limited at this time, but in an appearance on the Empire Spoiler Special podcast (opens in new tab) in February 2022, showrunner Rafe Judkins revealed a few key details (via Dragonmount.com (opens in new tab)).

The second season 2 plot will be derived from books two and three (opens in new tab) and (opens in new tab) of Robert Jordan''s epic saga. Although the eight-episode narrative will not follow the books precisely, they will be combined to further develop each character''s narrative.
