Keeley discusses the concept of "a comedy about a family who goes away with other friendship groups on holiday." My character Jo organizes a trip for them.

"They are attending a party at Jo''s house on New Year''s Eve, and she has a slight concern about wanting them all to leave on holiday together... They haven''t been on holiday much longer when the hotel they are staying in is attacked."

She has won numerous awards for her roles, including a BAFTA TV Award nomination for Best Leading Actress in and Best Leading Actress in the hit BBC series. It''s no surprise that Keeley has been chosen to lead this intense thriller.

Crossfire release date

On BBC One, the three-part series airs over consecutive evenings at 9 pm, finishing on Thursday, September 22.

On BBC iPlayer, all three episodes are available to watch as a boxset (opens in a new tab).

Crossfire plot

While on a dream holiday with her family and friends, Jo (Keeley Hawes) is sunbathing on her hotel room balcony. However, her world is soon hit with horrific devastation when shots strike across the complex. In an instant, attackers have broken through the idyllic paradise and transformed it into a gruesome hell.

A tale of survival and resilience is a heartfelt nail-biting thriller, but it is also emotional, intimate, and relatable as innocent holidaymakers and hotel staff are forced to make monumental life or death decisions.

What happened in episode 1?

The episode begins with a group of holidaymakers enjoying their trip, although there''s certainly a lot of tension between Jason and Jo. Shortly after everyone settles in for another day of relaxing by the pool, panic erupts as some of the guests and staff are shot dead.

Miriam is assisting a slain employee and is locked up in the kitchen as he returns to the hotel to find Jo after giving two of his children to Ben, and Jo is reunited with a member of the security team called Mateo. The pair travel to the security office and use cameras to investigate the hotel.

Jo catches her daughter Amara on one of the security cameras while she takes her to the rescue, ignoring Mateo''s advice. During the raid, Ben loses sight of the kids outside the resort, and one of the shooters discovers Chinar hiding out with some of the group''s children. In an effort to assist the kids escape, Chinar is beaten by the gunman, but gets shot in the process.

Jo then crosses paths with the same shooter by the pool. She orders him to remove his pistol, but the episode concludes with him pulling the trigger: did she survive?

Crossfire cast

Josette Simon (), Anneika Rose (), Lee Ingleby (), Daniel Ryan (), Vikash Bhai (), Alba Brunet (), Shalisha James-Davis (and Ariyon Bakare) are among the cast members.

Is there a trailer?

Yes, a trailer has been released! In the disturbing video, Keeley''s character says, "Why did I appreciate ordinary life?" How could I have not of imagined how profound it all was? All this time you thought you were choosing your life, but nevertheless, you were just heading to the beginning. If only I had known it would always conclude like this."
