Nuzlockeclaim from former National Register hosts is a response to the Pokemon Company

The Pokemon Company has responded to a claim made by the two previous hosts of Nintendo Minute, that the company would not allow them to show a "Nuzlocke" run during an episode.

Nintendo Minute was a weekly series that ended in December 2021, hosted by former PR managers for Nintendo of America Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang. Both have since left Nintendo and began creating their own podcast.

When answering questions submitted through Patreon, Ellis and Yang recall a time when they had raised the notion of a Nuzlocke run to The Pokemon Company in episode 31 of Kit and Krysta Podcast.

"We thought this would be a fun idea for a Nintendo Minute video," Ellis said, before punching his own fist, implying that the idea did not go down well. Yang admitted that the pair believed that Nintendo was "gonna fire us" for making the suggestion.

Ellis claimed that the Pokemon Company disagreed because it was considered "on the same level as using a hacked game," and that the two expressed their anger and fear before the response, as Nuzlocke runs no longer involve hacking.

Nuzlocke is a Pokemon playthrough with specific player-imposed rules. The two main rules are:

Depending on how many people choose to play with other constraints on the top of the ones listed above, each individual player should know what rules they follow. As Ellis explains, this is just a "style" of playing a game.

Yang made a further claim about individuals who included in the Nintendo Creators Program. "There were a lot of people who played a Nuzlocke-style of Pokemon that were eliminated from the Creator Program," Yang said, claiming that bad reactions would put them off from suggesting ideas for fear of their reputation with The Pokemon Company.

In a statement issued to Eurogamer, the Pokemon Company International stated that it does not have any problems with fans or creators participating in the video games with Nuzlocke rules.
