The Past Within, a cooperative time-travel puzzle company based on Rusty Lake''s fantastic sinister puzzle-adventure series, has finally received a release date, which will be available on PC, Mac, iOS, and Android on Saturday November 9.
Rusty Lake has launched 14 games under the banner Rusty Lake and Cube Escape to date, some offering fully fledged premium offerings, others as free-to-play companion pieces, each delivering a deliciously surreal, narratively interconnected slice of casual point-and-click puzzling with a room escape slant.
Rusty Lake''s first attempt at a cooperative adventure is expanding the series'' familiar structure, both spacially and temporally, as two players work together across different phases - one located in the past, the other in the future - to solve the mysteries surrounding legendary character Albert Vanderboom.
Players collaborating on a wide range of supported platforms will have to communicate to discern how the environment in their respective timelines are connected (environments, i.e., are rendered in both 2D and 3D in another series first), then use the knowledge gained from one timeline to solve puzzles and progress in the other.
Previous Rusty Lake and Cube Escape games have been incredibly engaging (Rusty Lake: Roots remains a fantastic high point) and The Past Within is likely to be one of the studio''s most ambitious outings yet. PC players looking to get a taste of its co-operative action ahead of its full release on 2nd November can get a demo on Steam.
