Cyberpunk 2077 has seen more players than it has ever experienced in the past

Cyberpunk 2077, a long-troubled sci-fi action game, is experiencing a comeback, almost two years after it was released on PC and consoles. CD Projekt have revealed in a tweet that the game has seen one million players every day this week, across all platforms. They say this figure includes players who have never played it, so don''t let me.

Cyberpunks concurrent player numbers have increased enough to make it one of Steam''s most popular games. In the past 24 hours, SteamDB shows the game at an all-time high of 86,130 concurrent players. A month ago that figure was around 16,000, and the player count has risen since the start of September. Twitch views for the game also increased from the low thousands to nearly 70,000.

This sudden rise may be explained by a few things: the arrival of the Edgerunners update to coincide with Netflix''s well-received anime series of the same name, set in Cyberpunk 2077. It''s probable that Edgerunners in the game''s head is likely to gain much more attention, along with the update itself. In addition, the promise of Cyberpunks'' first and only single-player story expansion, Phantom Liberty, was finally revealed at the start of this month and scheduled for 2023.

This week, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4000 series release features Cyberpunk 2077s, as you can see in the trailer below. It is getting an Overdrive mode that zhuzhes up things like neon signs, street lights, car headlamps, and billboards with fancy ray tracing. It will also benefit from DLSS 3 support to increase frame rates significantly.

Graham described Cyberpunk 2077 as a huge, sprawling, complex, and profoundly flawed game. It''s at its best as a fairly straightforward single-player action game, with likeable characters and thrilling capers in a fascinatingly detailed open world that looks better than any game before it. It''s at its worst if you want it to be an RPG, an approach-as-you-please Deus Ex sequel, or a polished piece of software.

There have been attempts to resolve the problems with Cyberpunk. Back in February, the game saw another bump in concurrent players, but Graham found the games'' strengths and weaknesses were still intact. Beyond these simple improvements, Cyberpunk 2077 does not - and is likely to - address the problems thoroughly.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store for 50/$60/60. All storefronts are up 50% until September 25th.
