Brendan Greene, the creator of PUBG, is working on a blockchain metaversegame

Brendan Greene, the creator of PUBG, has announced his next blockchain-powered game.

According to Nathan Brown''s Hit Points, Artemis will be a metaverse game with NFTs.

"I''m just going to do what I''m going to do," he said. "[Artemis is] this thing we want to create, and it will enliven people with a lot of fun, a lot of pleasure, and a lot of valuable things to do. But it doesn''t matter if it''s called the metaverse. I don''t care what people want to say.

As the game is a world in which players can build, he believes that a record of ownership is required, as well as a way for players to monetize their creations.

"We''re building a digital space," said the author. "It must be productive, and systems are at work." "I do believe you should be capable of doing things that will earn you money. "It''s not about, like, Chanel and Louis Vuitton. It''s about, however, a kid called AwesomePickle who sells cool skins because he understands what he wants.

The game''s underlying technology will be open source.

"It''s for everyone, right? It shouldn''t ultimately be controlled by us," said the narrator. "It''ll be a platform that we can do in the past, but it''s something that anyone may plug into, and everyone can host a bit of themselves.

"I''m quite zealous about this. It must be made a certain way. The only way this exists is if it''s made for everyone, and it''s not made for money."

What is Artemis?

Brendan left the PUBG development team in 2019 to start PlayerUnknown Productions in Amsterdam, with Artemis as its main project.

It''s intended to be a virtual world of an Earth-sized scale in which hundreds of thousands of players can make and play anything they want.

It''s a part of a research project about how AI can populate its world, such as by using an ML Agent to, for example, program animal behaviour or NPC AI.

"What Artemis eventually becomes," Brown says, "is up to the people who choose to live, play, and create there."

In wider PUBG news, Krafton is developing a new game called The Bird That Drinks Tears, based on a Korean fantasy novel of the same name.
