In this page-turning young adult thriller by Jarrod Shusterman and debut author Sofia Lapuente, what starts off as a light-hearted exercise to live without modern technology for a year turns into a quest for survival.
After a cyberbullying incident at her school goes viral, Luna Iglesias finds herself at the core of a brewing misunderstanding. It''s also called the Retro Challenge, where contestants stay without traditional technology, wear vintage clothes, party as if the future was not already written, and fall in love as if they were living in a movie.
At first, the challenge is fun. But then things get a bit confusing. Even Luna''s friends are stuck. There are voices in the woods. Bloodred markings on the trees. And Luna becomes increasingly curious if all of these strange events are related to the Retro Challenge.
Lies. Betrayal. Luna''s weight is on her shoulders. There''s so much on the line for Luna, but she''s not falling in love with the last guy she anticipated. If she knows the truth behind who is facing the challenge, the next person may be Luna herself.
YALLFest 2022, the real-life couple will also be attending a hybrid in-person/virtual launch event for the day, on Friday, January 27, 2023, at 6 pm PT. She''ll also be attending a conversation with author Gina Chen.
