A very exciting new crime series is coming to an end on Sunday, October 9, followed by ITV commissioned another feature-length crime miniseries that was inspired by another massively popular crime writer.

This time, ITV has turned to legendary Scottish author Val McDermid. The miniseries is based on the first book in the series, (opens in a new tab) and has been adapted by Emer Kenny. Val promises that "audiences are in for a treat!"

Because it is coming from World Productions (the same organization behind and!) and its huge writing skills behind it, the show may well be on track to become one of the best ITV dramas out there.

When is Karen Pirie on TV?

On ITV, the broadcaster began on Sunday, September 25, at 8 pm, with the remaining two episodes on a weekly basis.

On Sunday, October 9, the third and final episode of The Golden Globe is aired.

Will Karen Pirie be shown in the US?

We haven''t heard anything about a possible US release date yet, but this guide will be kept updated as soon as we know more.

How many episodes of Karen Pirie are there?

The first series of the series will be three episodes long, and each episode will be for 120 minutes.

What happened in episode 1?

The titular detective in the first episode of the episode was introduced to her as she investigates a cold case. It''s the case of Rosie Duff, who was initially discovered murdered in 1996.

We were introduced to Rosie, who was a barmaid, as well as the three friends who frequented her pub: Ziggy, Alex, and Weird, who claimed to have found her body in the graveyard where she had been murdered.

Ziggy is found to be riddled of guilt in the present day, but Alex and Weird advise him to keep it together, and it''s clear they''re hiding something from that night, as they claimed Rosie didn''t attend a party but she did and had a confrontation with Ziggy.

Ziggy becomes a key suspect in the case, but they''re unable to investigate him even further after he''s hit and killed by a vehicle, and we''ve no clue who the driver was. Was someone attempting to silence him?

What happened in episode 2?

Karen''s review of the Rosie Duff cold case was transformed into a live investigation, with the detective now interested in finding who was responsible for the initial death and who might be targeting the suspects in the future.

In episode 2, we discovered that Rosie was in a secret relationship at the time. What''s more, Karen learned that Rosie''s diary stated that the relationship was on the rocks, but her close friend Iona believed things were going well - might this mystery figure be involved somehow?

Suspicions arose in place of Weird, as his alibi from Dorothy fell through and forensic evidence proving Rosie was in his car turned up. To make matters worse, he Weird was relatively uncooperative when he spoke to the police, despite apparently feeling a lot of guilt about her death.

Weird might end up being the next victim in the trial, as Rosie''s daughter Grace appeared in his house at the end of the episode. Could she be the first to target the original suspects?

Karen Pirie cast

Lauren Lyle () will play as the titular detective. According to ITV, Karen is a young and fearless Scottish investigator with a quick mouth and a tenacious desire for the truth.

Lauren says she is completely pleased to be bringing the formidable force that is DS Karen Pirie to life by Emer Kenny''s delightful adaptation. Emer''s world, which includes Val McDermid''s much-loved books, is ecstatic and hooked me immediately.

I''m not sure if there will be a more creative, supportive and energetic team to join. I''m so grateful to Val, Emer, World Productions, and ITV for letting me know that I am full-heartedly on board.

Karen Pirie plot

The first series of episodes of ITV show centered on the historic case of Rosie Duffs'' murder, which Karen''s was caught after the cold case became the subject of a provocative true-crime podcast a quarter of a century after her death.

Rosie was initially discovered murdered in the Scottish university town of St Andrews in 1996, and three drunken students (Tom, Jason, and Alex) were discovered at the scene who claimed to have discovered the body. Although suspicions were denied, there was a lack of evidence, therefore no charges were made.

Now that the case is back in the public eye, it appears that someone is willing to risk everything to keep the truth hidden. Do the three men know more than they did on all of those years ago? How flawed was the initial investigation? Will Karen finally uncover the truth of what happened that fateful evening?

Is there a Karen Pirie trailer?

Yes! The whole trailer shows the case and sees Karen and her team getting to the bottom of things in what will be Karen Pirie''s first murder case. The original investigation was clearly mishandled. Hopefully, they''ll finally realize what happened all those years ago. Check out the video below:
