Colin and Barry have joined EastEnders as part of the cast making a return for the Dots funeral

Some classic characters from the eighties, the nineties, and beyond will return to Albert Square later this year, as a result of the fact that Dot Branning has died.

Colin Russell (Lord Michael Cashman CBE), his former lover Barry Clark (Gary Hailes), George Lofty Holloway (Tom Watt), Mary the punk Smith (Linda Davidson) and Disa OBrien (Jan Graveson) will attend Dot''s step-granddaughter Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) to give his final goodbyes.

After the death of actress June Brown OBE, MBE, who played Dot from 1985 to 2020, executive producer Chris Clenshaw announced in the summer that Dot would be put to rest.

It''s an honor to invite so many of the Walfords'' beloved characters back to pay their condolences to Dot.

Dot has profoundly altered the lives of many young people who struggle with life''s biggest difficulties. We wanted to reconnect some of her individuals she helped most.

Im delighted that these talented and generous actors wanted to share this special experience with us so we can send Dot a suitable send-off.

Colin Russell was well-known as the first ever gay character, and his kiss with then-boyfriend Barry in 1987 sparked national outrage, even though it was a peck on the forehead.

After a three-year stint, Walford became a model in 1989, but was briefly relegated in 2016 to invite Dot to his wedding to partner Eddie Tsang.

Is the relationship between him and Barry still ongoing? And is the relationship between Colin and Eddie still strong?

When I was asked back, I didnt even hesitate because I couldnt have imagined not being there for June, and I know Colin couldnt have imagined not being there for Dot.

They had an amazing and deep friendship that lasted over their years, and it was exactly the same as June and me.

Hailes, aka Barry, joins the cast, so getting invited back to the program after over 30 years away was thrilling, scary, and strange, but overall it was really nice!

Both Lofty Holloway and Mary Smith walked out in EastEnders from 1985 to 1988, but made guest appearances three years ago for Dr. Legg''s funeral.

Disa OBrien was introduced to the soap in 1990 and 1991. A homeless adolescent who met Diane Butcher a while while on the streets was assisted by Dot when she later struggled to care for her baby daughter.

Lauren, who is married to Max Branning, was first seen in Walford in 2018.

After Abi''s death, the character was left for a fresh start, who memorably slammed from the roof of The Queen Vic, when the siblings tried to stop Max from taking his own life.

Returning to Dot''s funeral was a no-brainer, and it was a real pleasure to get invited, according to actress Jacqueline Jossa.

I had a lot of fun but, of course, it was bittersweet. It was unbelievable to be back, but it was hard to be filming this storyline.

I can tell the viewers that Dot receives the beautiful send-off that she deserves.

On BBC One, the airs Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings at 7.30pm. For more information, please visit our TV Guide. You may also catch up on BBC iPlayer episodes here.
