The 1997 Simpson joke about Kevin Costner's Waterworld is now a sophisticated freeware game

At the time, I was chastised of this tweet as an obvious joke, but now the freeware game, based on a ten-second joke in a 1997 episode of The Simpsons, is still out. h, who''s laughing now, thanks to creator Macaw45''s itch.

To understand this whole thing, you need to see The Simpsons joke first. Waterworld, a film I actually like, is a sort of inverse Mad Max post-apocalypse film, which featured Kevin Costner and was over-hyped for release (it did actually have a real video game). This is basically all you need to know about Macaw45''s game, but it does help a lot if you''ve seen it.

Millhouse''s hands are actually controled by the 2D arcade cabinet game, so you WASD to move Kevin, and click on the interact or punch buttons. Sometimes you''ll have to punch in coins when you die, and this isn''t a bad speedrun game, since it may take you a while, and your secondary challenge is to spend as little money as possible. I lost $70 alone on a level where spanners fall.

Kevin Costner''s Waterworld was played for about 20 minutes, and it''s worth giving it a shot, because it''s the sort of game that will make you laugh instead of getting frustrated. Macaw45, meanwhile, is a Twitch streamer specialized in retro games.
