The Nintendo Switch Sports servers are currently down, but there is no return date

The Nintendo Switch Sports servers are currently offline, as a result of the most recent update.

The Nintendo of America Twitter account posted a tweet that it would take down servers to investigate an issue with Nintendo Switch Sports. "This bug has been discovered in the Nintendo Switch Sports Ver1.2.1 update, which causes the software to close during the pre-match loading screen," said the tweet. "This is causing both online and offline play modes, thus we have temporarily suspended the rollout of this update."

Nintendo continued to investigate for a solution, but servers on Nintendo Switch Sports will be temporarily restored and offline play will not be available during this time. A save data backup has been temporarily suspended. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

Nintendo has first reported the bug on October 14, but hasn''t announced when it plans to re-enable servers, nor has it provided any insight into how things progress.

Switch Sports has been updating the game since it began, particularly in the summer when it included some new volleyball moves, leg strap support for football matches, and the addition of an S Rank and Infinity Rank in the Pro League.

VG247''s review of Nintendo Switch Sports viewed the game very favorably, giving it four out of five stars, stating, "One can see how Nintendo could''ve made more new things, and included more all-new stuff." And yet... Nintendo Switch Sports is pretty much exactly what I wanted. I can see how it would be one of my absolute favorite games of the year. That''s Nintendo''s power."

Switch Sports came out a bit of a surprise, as it came out a while after the original Wii Sports, which Nintendo took the time to explain in May.
