In 2019, the studio announced that it was developing an open-world multiplayer game based on the Dune universe, and it was just one of three development phases for PC and consoles.

Previous Dunes games were primarily real-time strategy titles, such as Dune 2. The other game based on Frank Herbert''s Dune, a PC and PlayStation 2, was the last game to be released.

Dune Generations, a real-time strategy game set for release in 2001, was canceled.

Funcom''s first Dune title will be the first based on Herbert''s work to be released, as a sixth is currently in the works with Shiro Games, the studio that brought you Northgard.

The 4X real-time strategy game Dune: Spice Wars will be released by Funcom and is now available on Steam. In the video below, you can see what you should expect from it.
