Selena Gomez, host of Saturday Night Live, has a question for SNL

Well, this was an unexpected surprise and a sign of future expansion. With Selena Gomez, the star of Only Murders in the Building, and the musical guest Post Malone, we hadn''t expected an update until later today when they post the on-stage promo. Previously, Gomez took to Instagram Stories to show how she felt about the sketch scripts and asking a pretty big question.

Here''s a look back at how things go with Gomez during the SNL read-thru (and here''s hoping we get some from the cast as they used to during the previous season):

Here''s a look back at SNL''s welcome video for Gomez & Malone (with on-stage promos on tap for Thursday):

Before the end of the year, Saturday Night Live''s creator revealed that he had contemplated retiring and thought it was a "really good time to leave." Prior to that, Michaels said, "I''m putting it forward until its 50th anniversary, which is in three years. I''d like to see that through, and I have a feeling that''d be a really good time to leave."

"I won''t want the show to be bad. I care too much about it," Michaels said of the program, which he believes will go to everything he can to keep the show going for three years. But he admitted when it comes to who will take on the role next, that they have "a sense of where we''re going with that."

Aidy Bryant, Michael Che, Pete Davidson, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, Colin Jost, Kate McKinnon, Alex Moffat, Kyle Mooney, Cecily Strong, Kenan Thompson, and Bowen Yang, as well as new players Aristotle Athari (Future Man, All Rise), James Austin Johnson, and Sarah Sherman (The Eric Andre Show).
